A B&W Trailer Hitches Biker Bar is now part of the 9/11 Memorial Chopper display in New York City.
The 9/11 Memorial Chopper was created and designed in 2011 by Paul Teutel Jr. of Discovery Channel’s American Chopper. It was created in conjunction with the opening and dedication of the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, and it commemorates the indomitability of the American spirit.
The gas tank of the chopper mirrors the Oculus, a structure that will eventually connect eleven subway lines above ground zero. A Spanish architect, Santiago Calatrava, designed the structure reminiscent of the white wings of the Greek Phoenix myth of rebirth from the ashes.
In April of this year, a representative of the National September 11 Memorial & Museum contacted B&W and requested a Biker Bar product that could fit a custom, low-rider bike – specifically, the 9/11 Memorial Chopper. The Biker Bar would be used to latch the chopper to its new display stand.
After examining the chopper, B&W staff members concluded that it would require a custom-built bar.
The B&W team designed and produced the custom bar in record time and sent the bar off to the 9/11 Memorial staff in New York City.
A few weeks later, the chopper took its position on its new display stand, securely latched in place with the custom Biker Bar.
The Biker Bar is an excellent fit for the 9/11 Memorial Chopper display; it supports and stabilizes the chopper without detracting from the motorcycle itself.
Claudia Gerbracht, Exhibition Production Coordinator for the National September 11 Memorial and Museum, spoke of the Biker Bar, saying,
“It looks great, and the mount has gotten many compliments! We are very pleased.”
The Biker Bar product is an innovative latching system originally designed for trailering motorcycles. The adjustable bar and neoprene-lined clamps latch securely to a bike, eliminating the need for any cumbersome straps, chocks, or bolts. The Biker Bar is incredibly sturdy, and users can trailer their bikes for thousands of miles without the bikes moving an inch.
The 9/11 chopper and Biker Bar are located in Brookfield Place, a shopping center and cultural venue across the street from the 9/11 Memorial.
