31 DOZEN EARS OF CORN (OR, ANOTHER REASON TO WORK WITH US)
When he started the tradition, it’s doubtful that owner, Joe Works, ever imagined ‘dinner day’ involving 155 lbs of shrimp.
But on the last Thursday of every month, managers still gather to put a hearty meal on the table for all employees. It’s a tradition that is still worth it, despite the growth from 150 employees to 390 employees just in the last 10 years. And in July, the menu is a favorite. A shrimp boil.
SHRIMP BOIL RECIPE (FEEDS 350)
- 155 pounds shrimp
- 155 pounds potatoes
- 31 dozen ears of corn
- 93 pounds sausage links
- 155 onions
- 93 lemons
- 8 cloves garlic
- 31 shrimp boil packets
- 16 oz. red pepper
- 31 cups canning salt
- Oh, and 23 boiling pots
Like many things at B&W, our growth is managed by people pulling together. And being creative. (Did you know putting raw potatoes in a dishwasher will get them clean before baking?)
It’s the same principles that we apply to building hitches out of raw steel, only applied to lunch. Divide the tasks. Learn what people are good at. Streamline the processes. And have fun. Then, eat.
And so the tradition will continue. A prayer of thanks is given for our work and for our food.
Lunch is served.
